Freelance Project Pricing Calculator
Estimate a sustainable project price based on your hours, hourly rate, complexity, revisions, urgency, expenses, and fees.
Your Project Price
This calculator gives you a minimum, recommended, and premium project price. Use the recommended price as your primary quote, and adjust based on client context.
Premium pricing is a planning option, not a guaranteed market rate.
How the Project Pricing Calculator Works
The calculator uses this formula:
- Base Labor Cost = Estimated Hours × Hourly Rate
- Adjusted Labor Price = Base Labor Cost × Complexity Multiplier × Revision Multiplier × Rush Multiplier
- Subtotal = Adjusted Labor Price + Additional Expenses
- Payment Fee = Subtotal × Payment Fee Percentage
- Recommended Project Price = Subtotal + Payment Fee
The minimum price uses only the base labor cost plus expenses and fees. The premium price adds a 20% buffer for high‑value or complex work.
Example Project Pricing Calculation
Estimated Hours: 40
Hourly Rate: $91
Complexity: Standard
Revisions: 2
Rush: No
Additional Expenses: $100
Payment Fee: 3%
Base Labor Cost: $3,640
Adjusted Labor: $4,004
Subtotal: $4,104
Payment Fee: $123
Recommended Price: $4,227
Effective Hourly Rate: $106/hr
This example uses the default values. Your results will vary based on your inputs.
Hourly Rate vs Project Rate
Hourly pricing is ideal for ongoing support, unclear scope, consulting, and maintenance. It's simple and ensures you're paid for all time spent.
Project pricing works best for clearly defined deliverables, fixed scope, repeatable services, and outcome-based work. It can be more profitable if you work efficiently.
